Mubarak sons trial session adjourned due to absence of judge

Judge Abdel Aziz Abu Ayana, Head of the Giza Criminal Court, where the trial of Gamal and Alaa Mubarak over a number of corruption charges is held, was not able attend the court session on Thursday due to health reasons.

Acting judge Hassan Abu Raya said the case would be adjourned to 16 April.

The sons of the former President Hosni Mubarak arrived at the court in a private car and entered the dock before the case was postponed.

The defendants face charges of illegal gains from the sale of National Bank of Egypt, embezzlement of public funds, causing losses to the economy and destroying the country's banking system through manipulating the stock exchange.

They have also been accused of hiding their identity while speculating on the National Bank shares through cluster companies and closed investment funds they owned in Cyprus, as well as of transferring their profits abroad.
