Sources within the Tora Prison Hospital have said that Mubarak’s physical and psychological state is deteriorating, and that he has been suffering severe depression since his arrival, following his life sentence for complicity in the killing of demonstrators.
Interior Minister Prisons Department Chief Mohamed Naguib moved Mubarak’s son, Gamal, to a ward next to the hospital so he could be close to his father, who is in the intensive care unit.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the sources said Mubarak has lost weight and is having difficulty walking, but doctors managed to convince him to take his medicine, which he was initially refusing.
They added that the doctors are submitting a medical report to Naguib, who would submit it to the public prosecution that has the right to inspect the prison.
His personal guards are no longer allowed to accompany him, and a specific medical team was assigned with his follow-up so that news about him would not be leaked outside the prison.
