Hamed al-Dafrawy, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s internal opposition front, has announced that he will form a political party to be named the “Peace and Development Society,” and that membership will be open for all citizens, including Coptic Christians.
“I decided to form the party because I disapprove of the group’s guidance bureau,” al-Dafrawy said, adding that he is willing to cooperate with the moderate al-Wasat Party.
Sobhi Saleh, a leading figure in the group, said Al-Dafrawy had the right to form a party. “He hasn’t been active in the group for the past ten years,” he said. “He might even have been dismissed from it.”
General Guide Mohamed Badie had banned group members from forming political parties other than the group’s “Justice and Freedom Party”.
