The Muslim Brotherhood Youth group called on all political parties and movements on Wednesday to take a strong stance against the continuing referral of civilians to military trials.
The group also denounced the use of military courts to try civilians as a “violation of their constitutional rights and a breach of their legal rights.”
In a statement on Wednesday, the group said, “With much grief and indignation, we listened to the news of the referral of political activist Asmaa Mahfouz to the military prosecutor on insubstantial charges.”
The statement called on the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to “quickly close the investigation in Mahfouz’s case and to publicly announce that no civilians will be referred to military trials.”
The youth expressed their solidarity with any civilians transferred to the military court and called on all national forces to announce their refusal of any violations committed against any Egyptian citizens.
They also called on them to stand up against any deliberate or unintentional attempts at ruining the reputation of activists or political movements, saying these activists are nothing but patriotic and loyal to their country.
