The National Alliance to Support Legitimacy and Reject the Coup, an alliance formed by supporters of toppled President Mohamed Morsy after his ouster in July 2013, announced, on Thursday, it is studying the "Ten-principle Declaration," suggested by Egyptian political figures residing abroad as a solution to the current political crisis.
The alliance stated it tentatively approves of the initiative but has not officially signed it yet.
Political figures opposed to the current authorities launched the “Ten-principle Declaration” on Wednesday evening to restore the 25 January revolution, which ended the rule of former President Hosni Mubarak.
The initiative included guaranteeing management pluralism, the return of the army to its barracks, building a strategy for reconciliation, retribution and achieving social justice, youth empowerment, eliminating corruption, national independence and others.
Spokesperson for the alliance Magdy Qarqar said the alliance has not prevented any of members from personally signing the agreement, adding the 14 parties of the alliance have not yet officially signed it.
Figures belonging to the alliance who signed the declaration did in a personal capacity as the alliance continues to discuss the issue, Qarqar added.
Former Minister of Local Development and representative of the Muslim Brotherhood in the alliance Mohamed Ali Beshr said the entity is considering all suggestions made by political movements and figures in order to preserve the gains of the 25 January revolution, achieve national unity and restore the democratic path.
Beshr added he currently seeks to unite figures who are sincerely exerting effort to achieve national unity. Beshr stressed the alliance must move forward strongly to restore democracy and achieve the revolution's demands.
Political figures residing abroad signed the declaration which they said would achieve national unity including Wasat Party deputy head and former Minister of Legal Affairs Mohamed Mahsoub, deputy head of Wasat Party for foreign relations Hatem Azzam, New Ghad Party head Ayman Nour, FJP leader and former Minister of Investment Yehya Hamed, writer and journalist Wael Qandil, and coordinated of the Coalition of Egyptian Democrats in Britain Maha Azzam.
