National Alliance Supporting Legitimacy (NASL), which supports toppled President Mohamed Morsy, has rejected referendum on the new draft constitution.
In a statement on Tuesday, NASL said that what it called “leaders of the military coup” did not “understand the growing messages of the Egyptian revolution and the dangerous situation they are leading our dear country to.”
The statement added that they “did not understand the clear messages of justice after detention and of the military coup leader in Mali Amadou Sanogo and bringing the former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf for treason for imposing emergency law and suspending 2007 constitution.”
The statement also described the coming referendum as “replica of [deposed president] Mubarak’s rigid referendums.” It added that “the coup leaders call for a forged referendum whose results are known in advance to beautify their image and provide recognition from the West which conspire with them.”
NASL expressed rejection toward participation in the referendum saying “it refuses procedures resulting from military coup, last of which was that tampering which took place secretly in Shura Council, as if the Egyptian people are enemies whom they want to surprise with their document after ruining features of identity, freedoms and rights which were clear in the 2012 legitimate constitution.”
“The country, that faces unruly economic crisis due to failure of the coup leader, doesn’t need to waste billions of pounds in null formalities to create fake legitimacy that will not last,” it added.
