The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) has decided to raise the credit card usage limits for existing customers inside and outside Egypt, even if they do not contact the call center or visit the nearest branch to enable the full limits before traveling, according to data published on its website.
The abundance of foreign currency in banks after the decision to float the exchange rate has led banks to gradually lift restrictions on credit card limits for foreign currency purchases for travelers outside Egypt.
This is done by enabling the full maximum limits if the customer makes a call to the bank before traveling to enable this.
Banks allow customers to use credit cards to shop inside Egypt from foreign websites, or outside Egypt in cooperation with the global electronic payment companies Visa and MasterCard.
The details of increasing the limits using credit cards are as follows
Visa Gold card: The limit has been increased from 7,500 pounds to 25,000 pounds.
Mastercard Titanium card: The limit has been increased from 7,500 pounds to 25,000 pounds.
Visa Platinum card: The limit has been increased from 12,500 pounds to 40,000 pounds.
Mastercard Platinum and Mastercard UEFA Champions League cards: The limit has been increased from 12,500 pounds to 40,000 pounds maximum.
Mastercard World and World Elite cards: The limit has been increased from 20,000 pounds to 60,000 pounds.
Visa Signature and Infinite cards: The limit has been increased from 20,000 pounds to 60,000 pounds.
Corporate credit card: The limit has been increased from 20,000 pounds to 60,000 pounds.
Visa Classic, Mastercard Standard and Mastercard Egypt Air cards: The limits have been kept at 5,000 pounds without change.
