Workers strikes demanding better pay and working conditions continued in a number of Egyptian governorates on Sunday.
The strikes–at three different insurance companies–called for an increase in salaries and improved working conditions for the over 10,000 employees, as well as the permanent appointment of temporary workers.
Meanwhile, employees at the Ahli United Bank closed a number of bank branches in Cairo and a number of governorates. The employees are calling for amendments to the bank’s health insurance policy and salary improvements to cope with rising prices.
At the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, a number of employees organized a protest on Sunday outside the agency calling for salary improvements and equal bonuses for all employees.
Nearly 3000 employees at the Aviation Ministry protested to call for the resignation of Aviation Minister Ibrahim Manaa and Transportation Minister Atef Abdel Hamid from the new government. They said the two ministers should be tried for corruption. They also demanded the resignation of Yousry Gamal Eldin Mamdouh, the chairman and the managing director of the company Egyptian Airports and a number of executives from EgyptAir Holding Company.
The employees presented documents to the Supreme Council of the Egyptian Armed Forces that prove that Manaa conducted number of financial and administrative misdealings during his reign as chairman.
