Parliamentary candidates of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) and their supporters clashed with each other at a number of rallies held throughout Egypt on Tuesday.
Elections for seats in Egypt's People's Assembly are slated for late November.
In the Cairo district of Imbaba, NDP candidate Hisham Ragab engaged in a fistfight with his rival from the same party. Their respective supporters soon joined the fray, beating each other with clubs.
In the Daqahliya governorate, meanwhile, supporters of NDP candidate Laila al-Talis clashed with those of rival NDP nominee Ihab al-Fiqi.
At a rally held in the city of Belqas, supporters of NDP candidate Talaat Metawe threw chairs at supporters of his NDP rival, Yousry al-Maghazy.
In the coastal city of Rashid, supporters of NDP candidate Adel Shaalan clashed with those of rival NDP candidate Refaat Bakr. The two sides reportedly threatened each another with knives.
And in the Upper Egyptian city of Assiut, supporters of competing ruling party candidates clashed both with each other and with police. The nominees hail from two prominent local families that share a history of tribal feuding.
