Negotiations underway to secure Russian wheat supplies

Trade and Industry Minister Rachid Mohamed Rachid, at a press conference with his Russian counterpart on Monday, said Egypt is negotiating a long term agreement with Russia to secure uninterrupted supply of Russian wheat, irrespective of any force majeure.

Negotiations also include opportunities for economic partnership in the wheat industry, in particular Russian investment in wheat storage and transport within Egypt.

Russian Trade and Industry Minister Viktor Khristenko expressed gratitude for Egypt’s sympathetic response to Russia’s decision banning wheat exports following a dry wave that lowered wheat production and threatened Russian domestic supplies.
