Egyptian actress Nelly Karim, and actors Fathi Abdel Wahab and Hisham Ashour will guest-star in the upcoming film “The Goat” (2023), director Ilaria Borelli announced.
In press statements after the sixth edition of El Gouna Film Festival announced it would be screening “The Goat”, producer Islam al-Dakhakhni said that the enthusiasm of the actors served as a strong incentive to finish the film.
“The Goat” is a large project that includes more than four nations and was filmed entirely in Siwa, he added.
It revolves around a young girl named Hadia whose home falls prey to the ambitions of a Western company that seeks to control the only source of water in her village. She flees to the desert with her goat in search of her father and must overcome many obstacles.
The film stars John Savage, Mira Sorvino, Amr Saad, Sayed Ragab, Jessica Hossam, Maya Talam, and Arefa Abdel Rasoul.
Other cast members include cinematographer David Vlastis, costume designer Andrea Sorrentino, set designer Ahmed Fayez, and special effects designer Vittorio Sodano, a two-time Oscar nominee.
The film is written and directed by writer, director and actress Ilaria Borelli.
She won many awards and began her artistic career as an actress, before eventually moving into the director’s seat.
Her film “A Girl from the Brothel” (2012) is considered a milestone in her career. It won the Best Film Award at the Miami Women’s International Film & Arts Festival (WIFF) and the Los Angeles Women’s International Film Festival.
Borelli participated in international festivals such as the Madrid International Film Festival and the Victoria Film Festival, with her work receiving praise from UNICEF.
