Netanyahu welcomes Sisi’s push for Israel-Palestinian peace

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi's statement of Tuesday advocating peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

"I welcome the remarks of President al-Sisi and his willingness to make any possible effort in order to push for a future of peace and security between us, Palestinians and the peoples of the region," said Netanyahu.

The prime minister's response of Tuesday was quoted online by the spokesperson for the Israeli Prime Minister for Arab media, Ofir Gendelman.

Netanyahu went on: "Israel is ready to cooperate with Egypt and Arab countries in pushing forward the peace process and stability in the region," as Genderlman quoted.

"I appreciate what president al-Sisi is doing and I am encouraged by the spirit of leadership he shows, in relation to this important issue," said Netanyahu.

In a statement made Tuesday during the inauguration of new projects in Assiut, Sisi urged Israel and Palestine to strive for real peace, security and stability. He added that the process would require a concerted Arab and international effort, and put Egypt forward as a willing mediator between the conflicting sides.

"Some say that this peace would not be warm. But I believe it will be warmer if we achieved Palestinians' hope of having their own state," Sisi said.

Sisi called on Israeli officials to broadcast his speech more than once in Israeli news outlets, given the weightiness of his words.
