New governors appointed by the old Mubarak method

The Egyptian authorities on Thursday appointed 18 new governors, most of whom hail from the military and the police, in line with methods followed under deposed President Hosni Mubarak.

Among those from the military are Major General Ahmed Abdullah as governor of Port Said Governorate, and Major General Ahmed Ibrahim as governor of Ismailia Governorate.

Others from the police are Major General Mohamed Hefzy for Daqahliya Governorate, Major General Ibrahim Hammad for Assiut Governorate and Major General Samir Abdel Moneim Sallam in Minya Governorate.

For 30 years, Mubarak chose governors from the military for the northern governorates, and from the police for Upper Egypt.
