NileSat 201 to be launched Wednesday

Information Minister Inas el-Fiqi has announced that Egypt’s next-generation satellite–the NileSat 201–will be launched into orbit on Wednesday from a launchpad in French Guiana in Latin America.

“Launching the second generation of NileSat will consolidate Egypt’s position in this strategic field,” el-Fiqi said, describing the event as “a leap into the future.”

The minister went on to explain that the new satellite would provide higher quality television and improved Internet service, adding that he planned to personally follow the launch process from his ministry’s central operations room.

NileSat President Ahmed Anis is expected to fly to French Guiana to attend the event. “We will keep working on improving services to our viewers,” he said.
