Nine people died on Tuesday at a military institute in Ismailia in a stampede as cadets were being visited by their families, military spokesman Mohamd Samir said in a statement.
Samir added that the huge numbers of visitors waiting at the gates exceeded the allowed number, which caused the disaster.
He added that five people were injrued at the stampede which occurred at the Warrant Officers Institute in al-Tal al-Kabir.
The injured were transferred to local hospitals and the case remains under investigation.
