Nour Party has asked the Interior Ministry for rapid solutions for the police station "overcrowding crisis" as the situation becomes more "tragic".
In a statement on Tuesday, party chairman Younis Makhyoun said that the prisoners are being crammed in overcrowded cells, which may cause serious complications especially under the current intense heat wave.
He also called for "immediate" action to put an end to this "tragic" situation which he said violates basic human dignity and rights.
Human rights activists have voiced concerns over poor detention conditions and healthcare for inmates which have reportedly led to death in some cases.
In a report in December 2014, the Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) said Egyptian prisons are overcrowded by 160 percent, setting the rate at custody detentions at 400 percent.
