Officer killed, three wounded in gun attack at Banha checkpoint

A police officer was killed and three others were wounded on Sunday morning when unidentified gunmen attacked a checkpoint in the village of Kafr al-Gazar in Benha. Intervention forces were rapidly dispatched to the area to search for the gunmen.

The injured victims, as well as the body of officer Mahmoud Adel, were taken to the Benha University Hospital.

Hundreds of police officers and conscripts have been killed by extremist Islamist groups in several governorates since the ousting of President Mohamed Morsy.

The authorities hold the Muslim Brotherhood responsible for the killings, while the group denies the charge and claims it is committed to peaceful protests in demanding Morsy’s return.
