A man was killed and seven others injured on Monday in clashes at gas stations, amid an ongoing fuel shortage in many governorates. Citizens blocked roads to protest the fuel shortage, while the government discussed ways to ease the crisis.
A worker in a gas station, Mohammed Gouda, was shot dead at a gas station in Zefta in Gharbiya governorate, North of Cairo.
Some seven drivers were injured in the cities of Mahalla al-Kobra, Samannoud, Santa and Tanta as fights with bladed weapons took place in queues.
Police affiliated with the Social Solidarity and Domestic Trade Ministry seized 110,000 liters of diesel and 2 tons of gas in the Cairo, Sohag, Red Sea and Qena governorates before they were sold on the black market.
Head of the crisis prediction unit at the Social Solidarity and Domestic Trade Ministry, Hesham Saadallah, expected the crisis to continue until 15 May in conjunction with the wheat harvest.
