One killed, six injured in deadly train crash at Menoufia

A citizen was killed and six others were injured in a collision between a train and a truck on the railway track in Barakat al-Sab in Menoufia governorate.

According to investigations the truck was driving on the agricultural road when the steering wheel slipped from the driver’s hands, and then the tire burst, causing it to stop in front of the train.

The deceased and injured were transferred to the hospital, as the prosecution has taken over the investigation.

The Ministry of Interior stated in a press release on Thursday morning: “A security source stated that while a trailer truck was driving on the Alexandria Agricultural Road within the jurisdiction of Barakat al-Sab’ Police Station in Menoufia, parallel to the railway line, the steering wheel slipped from the driver’s hands, causing the vehicle to collide with the concrete barrier on the road. This led to a burst in the front tire, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle then came to a stop on the railway tracks.”

“Coincidentally, a train was passing from Matrouh towards Cairo and collided with it. The accident resulted in the death of one person (who was attempting to rescue the occupants of the vehicle) and injuries to six others (passengers on the train). They were all transported to the hospital for treatment.”

The statement added that, “Eyewitnesses and an examination of the truck confirmed the aforementioned details. The truck driver has been apprehended, and procedures are underway to remove the wreckage and take the necessary legal actions.”
