One person has died and another 23 injured after a lorry car overturned on the Desert Cairo-Alexandria Road in Giza governorate on Sunday, the Ministry of Health and Population said in a statement.
Spokesperson for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed clarified that the ministry has sent 11 ambulance cars to transfer the victims to the One Day Surgeries Hospital in al-Beheira’s Wadi al-Natrun.
Among the injuries suffered include post-concussion suspicion, quasi-fracture of spine, abdominal bleeding, suspicion of fracture of the skull, brain bleeding, coma, fractures of pelvis and jaw, bruises and abrasions across different places in the body.
According to a Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) report for 2017, accidents on roads that year resulted in 3,747 deaths, 13,998 injuries, and 17,201 damaged vehicles.
The report claims the main cause of accidents to be the human factor at 78.9 percent of total cases, followed by vehicle defects at 14 percent, and environmental causes such as road conditions, at two percent.
