The Legislative and Constitutional Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives rejected requests to lift the parliamentary immunity of three MPs for not meeting the requirements.
This came during a closed meeting for the committee chaired by the deputy head of the committee MP Nabil al-Jamal to discuss requests from the Attorney General and the Administrative Prosecution to lift the immunity of some MPs.
The committee rejected the request of the Attorney General to lift the immunity of MP Mortada Mansour, president of al-Zamalek Sporting Club over a libel case filed against him by from Mamdouh Abbas, the former president of Zamalek, because the request didn’t meet the requirements.
The Committee also rejected a request to lift the immunity of MP Ahmed Mohamed Badran, submitted by the Administrative Prosecution over some irregularities that have since been reconciled.
The committee rejected the request of the Attorney General to lift the immunity of MP al-Sayed Abdel-Al, for failing to meet the legal requirements required to lift immunity.
The deputy head of the committee MP Nabil al-Jamal said in statements to reporters that the reports submitted against the MPs are malicious and that they have been rejected adding that a report would be presented to the general session of parliament under the chairmanship of Ali Abdel-Aal, the speaker of parliament next week.
