The Coptic Orthodox Church has welcomed the visit of a large number of candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections, said Archpriest Royce Morcos, official spokesperson for the Alexandria Coptic Orthodox Church.
"Church (officials) met with a large number of members of the For the Love of Egypt list and the Egyptian Front list," Morcos said.
Morcos denied that the church backs certain candidates in the elections.
"The meetings were not aimed at garnering Coptic votes for candidates…as the Coptic Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria has repeatedly announced that the church does not interfere with the electoral process or direct any voters to vote for a certain canidate," said Morcos.
