Parties misused children for campaigning, says rights group

The Egyptian Association for the Assistance of Juveniles and Human Rights said certain political parties employed children for campaigning during the elections, a practice it considers a form of forced labor and human trafficking.

Association Director Mahmoud al-Badawy said the Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party, the Salafi Nour Party and the Reform and Development Party were the parties that abused children the most in their campaigning.

“They paid 10 and 20 pounds a day to children who are between 9 and 15 years old in the Shubra, Sharabiya and Zawya Hamra districts to campaign for them,” he said, pointing to a picture of a 13-year-old child leaning on crutches and distributing leaflets.

Badawy also showed a picture of two 10-year-old boys distributing leaflets for Freedom and Justice Party candidates.
