Photos: One dies after microbus falls into canal in Upper Egypt

A passenger was killed after a microbus fell into the Ibrahimiya Canal at the Dayrout Center in Assiut Governorate in Upper Egypt on Sunday.

Assiut Governor Hisham Abul-Nasr said: “We were informed that one microbus was carrying 10 passengers and the driver, while it was at Dayrout station in Assiut, and the driver left the vehicle without taking safety measures and applying the handbrake, so it slide into the canal waters.”

During a phone interview with Extra News Channel, he added that rescue forces, Civil Defense and police forces immediately worked on retrieving the victims and saving the rest of the passengers.

Four were rescued and a body was recovered, and the search is ongoing for others.

The security services, led by the Director of Assiut Security, Wael Nassar, received a notification of a microbus whic left the Dayrout station falling into the waters of the Ibrahimiya Canal.

Rescue teams are working with the participation of divers to search for survivors and the rest of the missing who were on board the microbus at the time of the accident.
