The plaintiffs' legal team in the trial of former President Hosni Mubarak held a meeting Saturday at the Lawyers Syndicate to determine who will be responsible for presenting their argument.
The court has asked the team to choose eight lawyers to argue the case.
Meanwhile, several other lawyers boycotted the meeting, saying they are not satisfied with the work of the lawyers assigned the case.
Al-Masry Al-Youm has learned that the plaintiffs' team has so far agreed on six lawyers, namely: Sameh Ashour, the Lawyers Syndicate chief; Mohamed Tosson, syndicate secretary general; Mohamed al-Damaty, first deputy of the syndicate; Fathi Tamim, second deputy of the syndicate; Khaled Abu Bakr, a member of the International Association of Lawyers; and Nabil Abdel Salam.
One member of the team, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it has been agreed that Ashour will begin and conclude the hearing.
The source added that the lawyers will provide conclusive evidence that will secure the conviction of the suspects accused of killing protesters. They will also provide evidence of their illegal acquisition of public money and their abuse of power.
The prosecution will demand execution or life sentences for all the suspects in the case.
The Mubarak trial is becoming increasingly complex, given the different charges faced by different defendants and the large number of documents and witnesses to be presented to the court.
Last Tuesday the prosecution demanded that Mubarak be sentenced to death if he is found guilty, a call that was greeted with applause from those present in the court.
Mubarak, as well as former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and six of Adly’s aides, face charges of ordering security forces to fire on protesters during the 25 January uprising.
The former president, his sons Alaa and Gamal, Adly and businessman Hussein Salem also stand trial on various corruption charges.
