Planning Minister announces €1 billion to be disbursed from the European Union on Thursday

Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, Rania al-Mashat, said on Tuesday that the government has implemented 16 economic and structural measures as part of the first tranche of the second phase of the Macroeconomic Support and Budgetary Assistance Mechanism, scheduled to be disbursed on Thursday through one billion euros.

Mashat added that this brings the total number of reforms implemented under the National Structural Reform Program, under the strategic partnership with the European Union, to 38.

This includes 22 measures implemented in the first phase, disbursed in January 2025 for one billion euros, and 16 measures included in the tranche scheduled for disbursement this week, she noted, explaining that this leaves three billion euros remaining, which will be disbursed in two tranches during 2026.

Mashat added that the five billion euro macroeconomic support and budget support mechanism includes more than 100 nationally formulated economic measures and policies being implemented as part of the National Structural Reform Program.

She said that this comes in light of efforts to secure more accessible and cost-effective financing alternatives than those available in international markets, to support the budget and increase the fiscal space available for spending on various programs and projects, in line with the objectives of the National Comprehensive Development Strategy.
