Police arrest 12 African migrants trying to cross into Israel

Egyptian security forces arrested 12 Africans who were attempting to cross into Israel through the Egyptian border.

Security sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm the migrantss were trying to infiltrate the Rafah border and the Karam abu Salem exit.

The migrants reportedly said during investigations they wanted to enter Israel to find jobs and that they had paid smugglers to sneak them across the border.

The arrested included seven Sudanese, three Ethiopians, an Eritrean and a Cameroonian.

According to Israeli sources, some 20,000 African migrants have entered the state via Sinai since 2007.
