Deputy Police Commissioner of Bulaq al-Dakrour police station Satea al-Noamany died on Wednesday, five years after he was injured in riots in 2013.
Noamany was shot in his face during confrontations with supporters of toppled President Mohamed Morsi in Bain al-Sarayat neighborhood in 2013. He lost his sight as a result of the injury.
After his injury, Noamany was in a coma for 60 days and then traveled to the UK on a therapeutic trip for 411 days. He returned to Cairo and requested the interior minister allow him to return to his job to take part in the fight against terrorism.
During the graduation ceremony of a batch from the Police Academy in July 2015, Noamany dedicated a pendant bearing traces of his blood to President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi as a gesture of loyalty to Egypt.
Noamany had been visiting London occasionally since 2015 to continue treatment. He died five days after surgery was conducted on his face at St. Mary’s Hospital in London.
