Police dog provokes false bomb alarm for PM’s car

Security sources were caught in a false sense of alarm at the Maadi building where Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb resides, following a false detection from a police dog who was sniffing his vehicle for bombs.

Sources at Mehleb’s security crew said police dogs regularly sniff around the prime minister’s car before he enters, but the latest check stirred fear among citizens and security when the dog rested next to the car, presumably a sign that it was booby-trapped.

However, Alaa Abdel Zaher, commander of Cairo’s bomb squad department, said officers sent to the scene said the vehicle was clean.

The source told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the police dogs are becoming increasingly inefficient at detecting bomb threats, occasionally deluding the officers.
