The 2015 report prepared by the Local Human Development Authority for the governorates of Alexandria, Sharqiya, Qaliubiya, Menoufiya, Kafr El-Sheikh, Fayoum and Assiut shows high rates of poverty, disease (in particular, renal failure), unemployment, illiteracy and mortality under the age of 60.
The report said those governorates have long suffered from increasing economic and social disparities and low levels of education, health and development services, which led to the outbreak of political discontent.
It added that the cities of Banha and Toukh have the lowest share of GDP per capita, while Al-Khanka and Al-Obour have a higher share, given that they are industrial centers.
The report also pointed to high illiteracy and poverty rates and poor health services in Shubra Al-Khaimah and Qalioub, high unemployment in Ashmoun and Bagour and high mortality in Fayoum.
