Presidential aspirant arrested for possession of marijuana at Presidential Elections Commission

Security services on Wednesday arrested a man named Fayez Mohamed for possession of marijuana inside the Presidential Elections Commission while he was applying to run for the presidency.

The state-run MENA news service quoted an eyewitness as saying that Mohamed entered the commission’s building and after a while he was handcuffed and surrounded by police officers.

MENA quoted police sources as saying that they searched Mohamed and found marijuana on him.

The commission has been receiving applications for candidacy for the fifth day. Since then, scores of ordinary citizens have requested papers to register their candidacy.

Users of social networking sites have been cynical about the number of the people who announced that they would run.

Egyptian state television quoted commission Secretary General Hatem Bigato as saying that the total number of applicants has so far reached 550 people.
