The Secretary General of the Bakeries Division of the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, Mohamed Abdel-Gawad, said that the price of non-subsidized bread will see a new decrease during the coming week, with the meeting of the Pricing Committee of the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade to discuss pricing for a loaf of bread.
During a Saturday evening phone interview with Al-Hayat satellite channel, Abdel-Gawad explained that bakeries are waiting for the meeting of the Pricing Committee to reduce the price of the tourist loaf of non-subsidized bread to LE 1.25 instead of LE 1.5.
Abdel-Gawad added that this comes in light of the decrease in the price of flour by about LE 200, despite rising fuel prices.
The decrease in flour prices was reflected in the decrease in the price of a loaf of bread and bakeries, he said, with the initiative of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Supply to sell the non-subsidized bread weighing 80 grams at a price of 150 piasters, and the loaf of 40 grams at a price of 75 piasters.
Bread prices were not affected by the recent increase in prices for petroleum products and diesel, he added, assuring that the price of a loaf of subsidized local bread weighing 90 grams will remain fixed at 20 piasters.
