Major General Mohamed Ibrahim, Minister of the Interior, submitted a request to top prosecutor Hisham Barakat on Saturday to investigate a criminal claim filed against sports commentator Alaa Sadek. The claim accused Sadek of libel and defamation against the Interior Ministry through his Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Barakat ordered Cairo Appeal Prosecution, headed by Judge Mohamed Ghorab, to immediately investigate the incident and examine the evidence submitted by the Ministry of Interior including videos and written comments by Sadek on his account.
Sadek is accused of having pro-Muslim Brotherhood views.
