Prosecutors question former Parliament speaker over protester deaths

Egyptian prosecutors on Wednesday questioned former People's Assembly Speaker Fathi Sorour on his involvement in assaults on protesters during the revolution.

Sorour faces charges related to ordering thugs to attack protesters in Tahrir Square on 2 February, which resulted in the deaths of  protesters and many injuries.

Prosecutors last week ordered that Sorour be imprisoned for 15 days pending corruption investigations. A fact-finding committee on Tuesday accused former officials of involvement in killing protesters.

Media reports on Wednesday revealed details of a phone call between Sorour and former President Hosni Mubarak in which they discussed incidents that took place that day.
