Protests staged against state of emergency

A coalition of political movements announced they will stage a protest Monday in Talaat Harb Square against the extention of the state of emergency and curfew, the random arrests of civilians and the trial of civilians before military courts.

The coalition of political forces included Strong Egypt Party, April 6 Youth Movement, the Revolutionary Socialists, Try Them Movement and Egypt without Detainees Campaign.

“The imposition of the state of emergency for many years has not prevented terrorism nor achieved security,” said April 6 leader Khaled al-Masry.

He pointed out that April 6 believes that the Penal Code is enough to achieve security and bring criminals to justice.

The cabinet announced 12 September the extension of the state of emergency for additional two months.
