Rapper Marwan Pablo sentenced to one year in prison for blasphemy

A competent court sentenced Egyptian rapper Marwan Pablo on Monday to one year in prison and set a bail of 1,000 Egyptian pounds to suspend the sentence, following his conviction on charges of contempt of religion.

Attorney Samir Sabri had filed the lawsuit, demanding that necessary legal action be taken against Marwan Pablo. The lawsuit was based on the rapper’s use of a religious invocation (Ibtihal) during a concert in a manner deemed a violation of religious and spiritual heritage.

According to the case files of lawsuit No. 102768 of the year 2022, the accused deliberately defamed the famous religious invocation “Mawlay” by Sheikh Sayyed Al-Naqshbandi during one of his live musical performances.
