Local fresh meat prices increased in May, according to a report by Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobility and Statistics (CAPMAS), although prices showed stability compared to April.
Beef and buffalo meat prices soared by 7.1 percent from May 2010, rising to LE56.11 per kilo in May 2011, said the report.
It added that the same month saw an increase in the price of imported meat compared to the year before. Locally-bred chickens also recorded a monthly increase of 2.8 percent in May.
As for fresh fish, May saw a rise of 1.8 percent in tilapia prices, in addition to a 0.9 percent increase in mullet prices from the month before.
The report says that the price of domestic rice rose 7.4 percent in May from the month before. Meanwhile, the prices of sugar, tea, and corn oil stabilized in May.
