Revolution groups on Monday called for a million-man protest in Tahrir this week for what they called a "Friday of Trial and Purging."
Statements issued by the Revolution Youth Coalition and Egypt’s Revolutionaries Alliance said the protest will continue to press for the demands of last Friday's protests.
Tens of thousands of Egyptians protested in Tahrir Square last Friday to demand that former President Hosni Mubarak, his family members and former officials stand trial. Observers expect this week's protests to be larger.
The Muslim Brotherhood did not participate in the protests last Friday, but it announced plans to participate this week. Students calling for the dismissal of university leaders they say are loyal to Mubarak's regime also plan to march to Tahrir Friday.
The revolution groups believe ongoing Friday protests in Tahrir are the best way to pressure the military council and interim cabinet to meet their demands.
The Revolution Youth Coalition’s statement said last week's protest proved that Egyptians are still united and will allow no one to harm the revolution.
Egyptian prosecutors are investigating accusations against the Mubaraks. Egyptian Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud announced Monday that the Mubaraks have not been officially charged.
