Rishawi and Karbouli’s final moments before execution

The Jordanian Ammon news agency said terrorists Sajda al-Rishawi and Ziad al-Karbouli were executed between 4:30 and 5:00 am Amman time on Wednesday.

The convicted terrorists were involved in a hostage negotiation between the Jordanian government and the Islamic State. The IS requested the release of the two prisoners in return for captured Jordanian pilot, Muath al-Kasaesbeh. When images of the pilot's immolation surfaced on the internet yesterday, however, Jordanian officials vowed retribution, executing the two prisoners Wednesday morning.

Sources told the agency that Rishawi was transferred under heavy guard and without disrupting traffic from Jweida Prison to Swaqa Prison at 2:00 am this morning.

Karbouli was the first to be hung within the execution hall of the Swaqa Prison. Rishawi was executed 15 minutes later.

The agency reported that when the judge asked them if they wanted a last request, Karbouli told him to send his greetings and the money that was in his possession to his parents. Rishawi chose not to send greetings to anyone, but agreed to send her money to her family.

Both Karbouli and Rishawi were Iraqi nationals. Karbouli was arrested for his connection to late Al-Qaeda leader,  Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Rishawi was incarcerated for her participation in a suicide bombing in 2005 that killed 60 people in Amman.

Ammon added that five convicts from different radical groups were taken to Swaqa Men’s Prison earlier this week.
