Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reaffirmed his country's participation in Egypt's anticipated Economic Development Conference (EEDC) , during a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart in Moscow late Wednesday.
Egypt's Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri embarked on Tuesday on a six-day tour to Tunisia, China, France and Russia, in preparation for the investment summit.
Shukri also met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal during his visit to Paris on Wednesday, when the latter stressed his country "fully supports" the investment summit and is "keen on its success," according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
Egypt has long been campaigning for the summit, scheduled for March 13 – 15 in the resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, among regional and international trade allies.
The state strongly believes heavy participation in the conference would help in the recovery of an economy battered by political turmoil during the past four years.
Shukri's tour was also scheduled to discuss bilateral ties with Tunisia, China and Russia and look into the latest developments in Libya and Jerusalem.
Twenty abducted Egyptians were beheaded at the hands of militants believed to belong to the Libya division of the Islamic State fighters in Iraq and Syria, in a video released last week.
In response, Egypt's air force launched airstrikes on targets in Libya and is making endeavours to rally the international community behind backing a draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council to lift an arms embargo on the Libyan government.
Lavrov said his country supports the efforts exerted at the Security Council to pass the said resolution, according to a statement from Egypt's Foreign Ministry.
The two ministers also reiterated their support for the internationally-recognised government in Libya, the ministry added.
