Russian security delegation inspects Hall 3 at Cairo International Airport

A Russian security delegation inspected Cairo International Airport on Friday as part of an ongoing program of visits to inspect security measures in various Egyptian airports.

Russia and other European countries suspended flights to Sharm el-Sheikh after the downing of a Russian plane in Sinai in October 2015 that killed all 224 passengers and crew on board.

Friday's Russian security delegation, which comprised seven experts, inspected Hall 3 and the catering area. They followed up on security measures for departing and arriving passengers, in accordance with a work plan agreed on with the Civil Aviation Minister Sherif Fatehy, according to Cairo Airport sources.

The sources said that on Thursday the same delegation inspected Hall 1, and it will leave for Sharm el-Sheikh on Saturday.

The delegation will submit a report to the Russian government to decide on whether to resume flights to Egyptian airports.

Flights will be first resumed first to Cairo, and then to Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada, assuming security procedures are deemed good enough.

Following the plan crash in October, Russia asked Egypt to tighten security measures in airports and resorts before the resumption of flights.
