Popular Current chief Hamdeen Sabbahi has called on the "Revolution Candidate" campaign not to pressure him and give him time to decide on his possible presidential bid in case Defense Minister Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi runs as well.
“We share the dreams of the martyrs and an entire generation that believes in the revolution and looks for a candidate who expresses the revolution,” Sabbahi said in a phone call to supporters, which was posted on Youtube. "I appreciate the enthusiasm of the youth who demand me to run."
"In case Field Marshal Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi runs for president, he will be the candidate of the military,” he added. “The nomination of Sisi against another person belonging to the revolution will make the military on one side and the revolution on the other. Such division will be beneficial only to the corrupt men of the Mubarak regime and the Brotherhood."
Hossam Moenes, the movement's spokesperson, said that the recording was "incomplete and taken out of context."
He added that Sabbahi never insisted on nominating himself or seeking authority, but his only aim is to achieve the goals of the revolution.
