Safwat al-Sherif’s son appeals corruption charges against family

Ashraf al-Sherif, son of former Shura Council Speaker Safwat al-Sherif, has appealed the ruling that referred him, his brother and his parents to criminal court on charges of illicit gains worth LE600 million. The appeal was made on the grounds that the charges had not been adequately investigated.

Sherif’s father is also accused of inciting the killing of demonstrators in the Battle of the Camel.

Ashraf al-Sherif has reportedly fled the country. Assem al-Gohary, the assistant justice minister for the Illicit Gains Authority, has asked Interpol to arrest and extradite him.
