Cairo Security Directorate stepped up security measures on Tuesday following the car bombing that took place in Mansoura earlier Tuesday morning that killed at least 13 people and injured 100.
Police prevented cars from parking in front of security directorates and police departments and used explosive detectors to check passing cars.
Major General Gamal Abdel Aal, director of Cairo Investigations Department, told Al-Masry Al-Youm, that Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim met with his assistants in the past few days and instructed them to tighten security.
Meanwhile, in Assiut, police also tightened security around churches and public facilities including Assiut Security Directorate, National Security Agency headquarters, banks, hospitals, and police stations.
Electronic gates were set up at police facilities and explosive detectors were used to check passing cars.
Though investigations are still underway and the perpetrators of the attack are still unknown, many are already pointing fingers to the Muslim Brotherhood.
