On Saturday, the Abu Suweir misdemeanor court in Ismailia sentenced 12 police officers from al-Mustaqbal Prison to three years in jail, fining each LE5,000 for negligence that led to the escape of two serious convicts last July.
The convicts include the former assistant to Ismailia security chief.
Two other police officers at al-Mustaqbal prison had been referred to a criminal court for receiving bribes from the two fugitive convicts who had been handed death sentences.
