Sharm El-Sheikh taxi driver detained for 15 days following harassment accusation made by Chinese tourist

The investigative authorities decided on Wednesday to detain the driver accused of harassing a Chinese tourist in Sharm El-Sheikh for 15 days pending investigation, subject to renewal.

The security forces arrested the suspect, who works as a taxi driver in Sharm El-Sheikh, after a video circulated on social media showing him asking the Chinese tourist, through a translation application on his mobile phone, to go home with him, using Google Translate for the Chinese language.

Despite the Chinese tourist’s refusal, he attempted to harass her and touched parts of her body, but she scolded the driver and recorded the entire incident.

The initial investigations revealed on Thursday that the suspect’s name is “Amir.M.E,” he is 30 years old, and resides in Tanta City in the Gharbia Governorate. He came to Sharm El-Sheikh several years ago to work as a taxi driver and earn a living.

Medical tests conducted on the suspect accused of harassing a Chinese tourist in Sharm El-Sheikh proved his use of narcotics.
