Manar Ghanem, a member of the Egyptian Meteorological Authority’s media center, said on Friday that a slight decrease in temperatures of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius is expected on the first and second days of Eid al-Adha 2024.
The maximum temperature in the shade in Greater Cairo will be between 37 and 38 degrees Celsius. Despite these decreases, the weather will still feel very hot.
The heat wave and rising temperatures that have been affecting the weather for some time now are due to the presence of hot Saharan air masses coming from the Arabian Peninsula. These air masses are very high in temperature.
In addition, the upper layers of the atmosphere are being affected by an extension of a high-pressure system that is causing temperatures to rise and increasing the periods of sunshine.
Furthermore, humidity and pollutants are being trapped in a layer close to the Earth’s surface.
All of these factors contribute to the feeling of very hot weather during the day in most of the country’s governorates. The southern regions will experience higher temperatures.
