President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has instructed for Mohab Mamish to be appointed as chief the General Authority for Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) alongside his work, to be on a minister’s degree for one year, succeeding Ahmed Darwish, the previous chief of the zone.
According to the Official Gazette, Mamish will be granted all powers stipulated as chief of the authority by law.
The decision also included the appointment as Mahfouz Mohamed Taha Marzouq as deputy chief for a one-year period. As chief, Mamish will be charged with designating certain specialities and duties to his deputies.
Darwish posted on his Facebook page saying he did not submit his resignation, but he expressed his confidence in the President’s vision for the coming phase.
“The most famous question I received is: Are you nominated for an international post? The answer is: I have no idea. I did not quit but I highly trust the president’s vision and what and who will be needed during the coming period of time,” he said.
The authority is in charge of running and carrying out the Suez Canal corridor project, separately from the Suez Canal Authority. It enjoys wide-ranging powers over the activities and projects at the corridor project, east of the canal, logistic zones in Suez Canal, Sinai and Ain al-Sokhna in addition to the Technology Valley.
