Sisi calls to upgrade Egypt’s transport system as part of sustainable development

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Saturday, alongside Minister of Planning Hala al-Saed and Minister of Transport Kamel al-Wazir and called to upgrade the transport system as part of sustainable development for Egypt.

Sisi urged the government to complete signing contracts with international companies to supply new trains and locomotives for the railway authority, and to improve train services.

The government will finish the New Administrative Capital monorail, linking between New Cairo, 6th of October City and various different areas of Cairo, alongside starting measures to implement the express train line linking between al-Alamein and Ain al-Sokhna, said the ministries.

Sisi, Madbouly and Wazir also met with Chairman of the US company Progress Rail Locomotives (PRL), and several senior officials, to follow up the agreement on supplying new locomotives and updating the efficiency of current locomotives.

Sisi praised cooperation between the government and PRL, asserting that Egypt works on developing the transportation system in accordance to the global standards, giving priority to the criteria of safety and integrity.

The Ministry of Transport, in partnership with the private sector, has begun 12 railway projects which the ministry plans to embark on starting next year, totaling to 424 kilometers of the new railway network to transport goods across Egypt.

This new railway network aims to expand the cargo transport system by establishing new lines, maintaining and repairing existing lines, linking the existing network with sea and dry ports and equipping the national projects with a modern cargo transport network.
