President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi headed on Friday to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa to participate in the twenty-sixth African Summit being held on Saturday and Sunday.
The main topics on the agenda of the African Summit include issues of governance, elections and commitment to constitutional principles, as well as the financing of the African Union. These two topics were chosen to be the focus of the closed meeting, held by the heads of states and governments, before the official opening of the summit, which will address peace and security issues on the African continent, and ways to strengthen regional cooperation on counter-terrorism.
Sisi's itinerary includes a number of meetings with African presidents to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations with these countries in various fields. Sisi will submit a report to the summit, being head of the Committee of African Heads of State and Government on Climate Change (CAHOSCC), on the results of the Paris Summit on Climate Change, held in December 2015, and the efforts made by Egypt which was Africa's representative in the summit.
The result of the African Union Peace and Security Council elections will be approved during the summit. Egypt won the membership of this council during elections earlier this week.
